LAC NATIONAL BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Participants and guests of the Second Session of the XXIV Lithuanian American Community National Board of Directors, Los Angeles, CA
The National Board of Directors of the Lithuanian American Community (LAC) is the community’s highest governing body. It sets overall direction, makes key decisions, and ensures the continuity of community life and activities.
The Board is typically composed of 69 members: 60 democratically elected representatives of the districts and 9 district presidents, who serve on the Board ex officio.
Main functions of the Board:
sets the guidelines and methods for the activities of the Lithuanian American Community (LAC);
approves and modifies the bylaws and internal regulations;
elects the President of the LAC National Executive Committee for a three-year term and approves the members of the Executive Committee;
elects the Conflict Resolution Commission, the Audit Commission, and the representatives to the Joint Commission of the Seimas (Parliament) of the Republic of Lithuania and the Lithuanian World Community;
establishes permanent commissions (for Education, Culture, Public Affairs, Human Services, Finance, Organizational Affairs, Religious Affairs, Youth, and Bylaws);
approves the budgets, activity plans, and reports of the National Executive Committee and its institutions;
determines the amounts of the National Solidarity contributions;
addresses other matters provided for in the bylaws.
The Board convenes in annual sessionsto discuss key community matters. Its work is led by the Presidium of the Board, which calls the sessions, proposes the agenda, announces resolutions, and maintains communication with the National Executive Committee and other institutions.
Members of the Board are required to participate in the sessions, and decisions are made by majority vote. When necessary, issues may also be decided remotely.
Representatives to the Board are elected by all Lithuanians over the age of 18, Lithuanian-descendant Americans, as well as their spouses, even if they are not of Lithuanian descent. This ensures that a broad segment of the Lithuanian diaspora can participate in decision-making.
The term of the National Board of Directors lasts three years. The current XXIV Board is responsible for the activities of the Lithuanian American Community from 2024 to 2027. Each year, the Board sets the organization’s strategic directions and traditionally convenes in a different U.S. location. In 2024, the First Session of the XXIV Board took place in Dallas, Texas, and in 2025, the Board members gathered for the Second Session in Los Angeles, California.
The Presiding Panel of Officers of the XXIV LAC National Board of Directors has announced that the third session will take place in Orlando, Florida, in 2026!
