ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE
The Lithuanian American Community (LAC) consists of Lithuanians residing in the United States, as well as non-Lithuanian spouses from mixed families and their descendants. Guided by the Lithuanian Charter, the LAC has united Lithuanians living in the United States since 1951 with the goal of preserving Lithuania’s cultural identity for future generations. The Lithuanian American Community is an active member of the Lithuanian World Community (LWC), which unites Lithuanians from 55 countries into one community family. The LAC is a non-profit organization incorporated in the State of Illinois and operating under the laws of Illinois.
The Lithuanian American Community has a well-organized structure, establishes and supports Lithuanian language schools, organizes cultural events, song and dance festivals, sports competitions and academic symposiums. Deep-rooted traditions and strong heritage unite Lithuanians, encouraging them to preserve and cherish their inherited national values.
Lithuanians in the United States, according to their place of residence, are divided into nine districts. These districts encompass one or more states in which Lithuanian chapters operate. At present, there are 53 chapters across the country where Lithuanian activities are actively promoted and preserved.
The highest governing body of the Lithuanian American Community is the National Board of Directors, composed of 69 members: 60 elected representatives from the districts and 9 district presidents. Read more about the LAC Board of Directors here.
The National Executive Committee is the executive branch of the Lithuanian American Community. It implements the goals set forth in the LAC bylaws and the resolutions of the National Board of Directors, encourages the establishment and activities of chapters in all Lithuanian-populated areas of the United States, and maintains relations with other ethnic organizations and U.S. institutions. Read more about the activities of the LAC National Executive Committee here.
The Lithuanian American Community uses the following terms: National Board of Directors, National Executive Committee, District, Chapter, Audit Commission, and Conflict Resolution Commission.
